Spread the C.R.A.P. Around
As an employee retention speaker and employee retention author, I am always looking for C.R.A.P. (Caring, Respect, Appreciation and Praise) success stories. In my programs, my real goal is to spread the C.R.A.P. around. I am trying to start a movement of C.R.A.P. if that makes any sense. So, whenever I hear about a C.R.A.P success story I like to publicize it because I hope that others will replicate it and find success for their organization as well. Recently, this employee retention trainer was on LinkedIn congratulating some people about their work anniversaries and I started chatting with a person who had heard me speak in the past. She had a great story for me.
This employee retention consultant was told that as a leader, she put a new spin on the use of “thank you” cards. I love “thank you” cards when they are written with a personal touch that speaks to something a person has done. It’s truly special to receive one. The leader I was chatting with sends out a C.R.A.P. card with the poop emogi on it to thank someone for their assistance on a project. Her general manager saw the card and he LOVED IT! So, it became a way to send out those positive affirmations across the entire organization. People in their organization love to get a C.R.A.P. cards…with the poop emoji on it.
Beyond the fact that they were showing appreciation I loved the fact that 1) they were being creative with my C.R.A.P. 2) they were starting a movement and 3) they were having fun with it. This was a great way to build on the theme of Give Your Employee C.R.A.P.® It took a willing ness to step out of the box and put in the poop emoji. Not many people will try things like that for fear of it not being “appropriate.” They took a gamble, it worked and the C.R.A.P movement spread!
The other thing that it did was add some fun to the workplace. All too often we feel that if you are having fun, you are not working. I have always felt that was part of our problem in Corporate America. We got more concerned about how things looked so we didn’t have the fun with it that we should have. People generally pay to have fun. In this case, they are getting paid to have fun. How could you ask for anything more?
Kudos to this leader and her willingness to step out of the box. If you don’t extend yourself, you miss out on a lot of opportunity. So, don’t be afraid to step out of the box and Give Your Employees C.R.A.P.® Why? Because C.R.A.P. works!
