What a novel idea. Training. I thought the best way to assimilate people into an organization was to just throw them into their new job and see if they are able to cut it. Just Kidding!!! Sadly, that is the way many organizations act. Oh, they may do some orientation, maybe a bit of on-the-job training but, generally, they just throw people into their job. They simply assume they will survive. With talent being hard to find, you want to ensure the people you bring on board are successful.
The person this employee retention trainer was talking to was in her late twenties and had switched jobs once before but even she has already become jaded by the approach that many organizations take. The fact that her new organization is expending the time and energy to train her sends a powerful message that they want her to succeed and STAY. It’s a powerful employee retention message. The organization may not be thinking this but organization employee retention strategies like this work. Those first 30 days are critical when it comes to the mindset of the employee. This is when many people make the decision if they are going to stay with the organization long-term. Even if they stay for a while, this 30-day period is when many people decide to leave…even if they don’t leave right away.
Beyond employee retention, the approach used by this organization increases employee engagement improves productivity and quality and builds a culture of C.R.A.P. (Caring, Respect, Appreciation, and Praise). Taking time to ensure someone succeeds with the simple act of training is a sign of Caring. This employee recruitment expert applauds this organization for doing what many organizations fail to do…they actually cared enough to train their new employee!
