This employee retention speaker and employee retention expert has heard this from numerous people.  Yet, in the news, we hear that people have been getting significant raises.  Not everyone though.  As many people have done sign-on bonuses, wage increases in the plant, or in many of the blue-collar roles there seems to be a group of non-exempt white-collar employees that have not gotten raises because organizations have been able to find and hire these roles more easily than blue-collar employees.

There is a real danger in this type of situation in the opinion of this employee retention trainer.  Everyone talks about the great exodus that is going to take place.  The raises given in the blue-collar jobs will help to keep people in those roles in an organization.  But, when you hear someone say, “I’ve busted my A**….when am I getting a raise? That really sends a danger signal.  Something needs to be done or some of the positions that have been relatively stable could become unstable very quickly.

Part of what we are seeing is that many employees don’t feel appreciated.  This employee recruitment expert attributes this to the fact that many employers were not giving their people enough C.R.A.P. (Caring, Respect, Appreciation, and Praise) BEFORE the pandemic and that deteriorated even further with remote work, Zoom instead of in-person meetings, and not enough touching in with employees during the pandemic.  It’s easy to chat when you see someone in the hall or at lunch.  That’s not the case online.

If you are a CEO, owner, or GM, there is still time to correct this.  Ignoring it will not make the issue go away.  People worked their tails off during the pandemic and need to feel appreciated.  If they aren’t, they will leave.  Part of that appreciation may be giving out some raises to people you’ve forgotten about.
