Most of our beliefs are formed when we are young children or adolescents and often by the time employers get people those beliefs have been deeply embedded in people.  Frankly, as an HR Leader, we didn’t have years to try to change people’s beliefs because we were worried about simply successfully running the business.  Instead, this employee retention speaker and employee retention expert focused on how we behaved toward each other.  At the heart of that behavior, we focused on ensuring we behaved with RESPECT toward each other. Guess what…it worked!

Once people were respectful toward each other, we had less drama, less squabbling between teammates, and people found the work environment far more pleasurable.  Now, when this employee recruitment expert teaches his clients C.R.A.P. (Caring, Respect, Appreciation, and Praise) I speak to specific behaviors that are disrespectful to others.  In many cases, people don’t even realize they are being disrespectful or do know but nobody ever called them out on their behavior.  As an organization, making sure we had a respectful environment was a part of our employee retention strategies.  It worked!  When other employers around us were churning people, we had great employee retention.  We used all elements of C.R.A.P.  and respect was one component.

Some of the elements that this employee retention trainer now talks with clients about to demonstrate respect are:

  • Listen intently to each other…that includes not texting when someone is talking to you
  • Be on time for meetings
  • Don’t gossip about others
  • Say please and thank you
  • Give feedback constructively
  • Never throw someone under the bus

These are just some of the aspects of respect we talked about.  Nothing fancy but when you start to pull them all together it was powerful stuff…and still is.  It starts little by little.  But you have to start somewhere.  It’s time to get back to the basics.  If you are struggling with an environment that lacks respect, call me and we’ll talk about how I can jump-start it for you.  Also…I promise I won’t be on my cell phone texting when we talk!

Remember…Give Your Employees C.R.A.P.®  (Caring, Respect, Appreciation, and Praise)  Why?  Because C.R.A.P. Works to improve your employee retention!
