How does it apply to your workforce?  During the Covid-19 pandemic, many organizations struggled to keep up with the changes that were taking place with remote work as well as the long hours because of being short-staffed as Covid-19 rolled through their workforce.  Employees worked long hours and are still working long hours because of the problem of finding people to work with.  Often, employees have gone above and beyond and received little appreciation and praise.  This is the equivalent of riding a horse hard and then not rubbing them down to prevent them from getting sick.  It’s the equivalent of what we have done with our workforce in the last two years.

As this employee retention speaker and employee retention expert observed how organizations have treated their people, it became evident that many leaders were not coping well with the new approach to work, so they never took the time to give appreciation or praise when their people needed it most.  Appreciation the “A” in the C.R.A.P. philosophy and Praise of the “P” in the C.R.A.P. philosophy fell between the cracks.  Well…it’s time to start getting back to the fundamentals and using these tools as part of your employee retention strategies.

One organization this employee recruitment expert knows actually did a big “Coming out of Covid” party for all its people.  They used the event to honor all their people and express their appreciation of how everyone had gone “above and beyond” over the last two years.  The President made it a point to explain how, but for their efforts, the organization would have lost customers and struggled coming out of the pandemic.  The people had a blast, and many thanked the President for his recognition for what they had done.  It meant a lot to them coming from the President and the simple fact that he made the gesture to do so.

All too often, we miss opportunities to show appreciation and praise our people.  These are golden opportunities to solidify the relationship between the organization and its people.  This is a great way to take a huge negative (Covid) and get some positive out of it.  If you want to have a successful employee retention strategy, you have to look for opportunities to give appreciation and praise.  Don’t be an organization or leader who rides them hard and puts them away wet!

Remember…Give Your Employees C.R.A.P.®  (Caring, Respect, Appreciation, and Praise)  Why?  Because C.R.A.P. Works!
