This employee retention speaker and employee retention consultant were working with an organization helping them to create a Culture of C.R.A.P. (Caring, Respect, Appreciation, and Praise). The goal is to improve engagement and lower employee turnover by building a culture that drives those two metrics. When this employee retention author works with most organizations, I start with the top leadership team and then work my way down through the managers and first-line supervisors. That’s the way this one was working initially. Then, the CEO came to me and asked if I could train ALL employees in what I had trained everyone else in leadership on. This is the first time I have ever had this request.
The CEO’s rationale is all employees need to hear what was told to all of the leadership. He believes the message is better conveyed to all employees, so nothing is lost when leadership starts working with their direct reports. He also felt it would help because if everyone is involved the likelihood of success was greater. His rationale is if you want engagement, get all people involved early in the process.
As part of this employee retention trainers process, I had everyone brainstorm on several key areas we had identified as important. The result was amazing! Employees who had never had an opportunity to truly get involved were excited to have the opportunity to contribute to the culture initiative. The participation level was off the charts and the ideas were just as amazing. Plus, it will help to eliminate the skepticism that normally happens at the beginning of any new initiative. Getting everyone involved can also play a key role in your employee retention strategies as well.
If you truly want to drive change, increase employee engagement and improve your employee retention, the way this CEO went about was rather smart. So, next time you are looking to start a new initiative…get everyone involved!
Remember…Give Your Employees C.R.A.P.® Why? Because C.R.A.P. Works!
